After a year in the FIG Office Julie Hyun Sook Lee returns
to Korea
27 February 2014
Dear Colleagues and Friends
Julie Hyun Sook Lee has communicated with many in the FIG
community during her 1-year stay at the FIG Office |
I have spent a year in FIG office and am about to
leave this beautiful country.
When I was a freshman in University I have studied about
“Cadastre 2014” and “FIG” from the text books and journals. I had no
idea what would happen in 2013 to me!
My Company (LX Korea Cadastral Survey Corp.) and
Korean
government had a long term plan for capacity building with
International relationship with many other organizations such as
World Bank and UN, and of course with FIG! Our former president, Young Ho, Kim, had an idea how to contribute from Korea to help
the FIG Office. We stunned and hoped to get a chance to have an
opportunity to get an internship in FIG. |
I got the chance to go to the FIG office in Copenhagen, Denmark for one
year. Even though, it was named as an internship, there was always an equal
position and attitude, furthermore there were no access limitations as I
expected before I flew over to Denmark. I have learnt a lot about how to
communicate with all kinds of people and especially the surveyors from all
over the world, and how to organize the Conferences and how difficult it can
be ! However the gentle and honesty attitude are always a good solution and
it was all about the communication and cooperation.
Danish people are commonly known by Koreans as the
most happiest people in the world and surely they are ! But I want
to add only one thing, yes, happy in summer but not that happy in
winter ^^ So, I had to learn how to handle with snowy rain with darkness at
3pm on bike and give up the hair style! While I am writing this
article, I feel almost dreaming about my longing and still hardly
believe I had this opportunity with FIG office (Louise, Hanne,
Claudia) and lovely colleagues from The Danish Association of
Surveyors, DdL and Geo-Forum. |
A concentrated and hard working
Julie Hyun Sook at the ACCO
meeting during the FIG Working Week in Abuja, Nigeria, together with
FIG President CheeHai Teo, Paul van der Molen and Leonie Newnham. |
It was a great experience for myself and for LX KCSC in Korea, and we
will look forward to seeing and keep searching more cooperation in the
future. Surely it is not the end but just a new start.

----
For FIG office it has been a great opportunity to welcome Julie Hyun
Sook Lee in the office for a year. It was a very generous sponsorship by
LX Korea Cadastral Survey Corp. FIG office is only staffed with three
employees and an extra person in the office for a full year made a huge
difference. Not only has Julie contributed to the work of FIG in the best
way, but also her presence in the office has been both inspiring and fun.
Her sense of humour and her unfailing good spirits has been invaluable. We
will miss this very much – as well as the extra hands. Julie has contributed
to opening our eyes for other cultural values and we learned many things by
having Julie in the office. We also hope that Julie’s acquaintance with the
Danish (somewhat peculiar) culture has not been too overwhelming. We wish
Julie all the best back in Korea. Claudia, Hanne and Louise
