FIG President Stig Enemark attends Society of Chartered Surveyors Conference 2008

FIG President Stig Enemark attended the Annual Conference of the Society of Chartered Surveyors, Dublin, Ireland, 17 October, 2008, entitled Ireland´s Future in a Global Economy.

The one-day conference included welcome address from SCS President Sean McCormack and six key presentations addressing the conference theme: David Drumm, talking about banking and property at home and abroad; Prof. John Fitzgerald, addressing Ireland´s economic performance on the world Stage; Tom Costello discussing the forecast for Irish construction; John Bruder discussing Ireland in a global economy from a developer's perspective; David Strahan, looking at the global oil crisis and the life after oil; and FIG President Stig Enemark talking about property development and the role of the global surveying profession. The conference was very well attended and provided a useful insight on the role and also opportunities of the surveying profession in Ireland during the current financial crisis. President Enemark also took the opportunity to explain the wider role of the surveying profession in the area of Land Management and also in facing the global agenda in terms of the Millennium Development Goals.

President Enemark also attended the event of the Michael Long Memorial lecture on the evening before the conference and gave a key presentation on the Role of the Surveying profession in Contributing to Society. Michael Long was the founder of the Land Surveying (Geomatics) division in the Society of Chartered Surveyors and was strongly committed to the FIG activities. The event was attend by about 30 invitees and was held at the SCS headquarters in Dublin.

Finally, President Enemark gave a lecture to the students at Dublin Institute of Technology that offers a key program in Surveying entitled: Geomatics, Spatial Planning and Environmental Management.
