DVW President Karl-Friedrich Thoene passed away

It is with great sorrow that we must inform that DVW President Karl-Friedrich Thoene has suddenly passed away shortly before his 60th birthday from a heart attack.

 FIG President Chryssy Potsiou expresses on behalf of FIG: "I am shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of the President of DVW Prof Karl Thoene. It is a real shock for all of us, something totally unexpected, something that hardly looks real.
DVW President Prof Karl Thoene has been long supporting FIG activities and is broadly respected within our surveying family for his wise and smart contributions and his strong commitment to our global agenda. It is a terrible loss for the German surveying profession and for FIG as well.
My regrets and condolences to President Thoene's family and to the members and leadership of the DVW. He will be greatly missed in Germany and throughout the rest of the European surveying profession, as well as in FIG."
