INTERGEO 2011 was held in Nuremberg, Germany 27-29 September 2011. The
world biggest tradeshow in surveying and geomatics business gathered more
than 16,000 visitors from 80 countries. The exhibition space exceeded 28,000
sqm introducing 800 exhibitors. One third of the exhibitors were
international, e.g. the Chinese contribution was large after the successful
joint pavilion last year. The figures prove that INTERGEO is doing well even
during turbulent economic period and has became a truly international
exhibition over the last years. Prof. Karl-Friedrich Thöne, President of the German Society for Geodesy,
Geoinformation and Land Management (DVW) stated that "there is simply no
better platform to promote networking between providers and users on a
professional level in geomatics business". The focus at INTERGEO 2011
was very much on the geodata infrastructure, sensors and 3D mapping.
The INTERGEO conference titled "Knowledge and Action for Planet Earth"
attracted 1,500 participants - an increase to the previous year - to listen
to 140 presentations on 40 main topics. The plenary speeches were made by
Prof. Thöne, Franz Josef Pschierer and Prof. Holger Magel, Honorary President of FIG. The SatNav Forum organised
for the first time proved extremely successful. This was the first time the
annual navigation conference was held in conjunction with INTERGEO. “There
has never been such intensive dialogue between politicians and
representatives of the geoinformation technologies sector as at this year's
INTERGEO", stated President Thöne.
FIG was represented at the INTERGEO by Vice President Rudolf Staiger,
who also made the greeting on behalf of all partner associations at the
Opening Ceremony on the 26th September at the City Hall of Nuremberg. Prof.
Staiger and FIG Director had fruitful meetings with the major FIG corporate
members and also with several member associations. The number of FIG members
attending INTERGEO indicated that it has also become a platform for
international networking. Contacts to potential corporate members were also
made and good feedback was received on FIG Working Week in Rome and the
congress in 2014.
The next INTERGEO will be held in Hanover 9-11 October 2012.
