Paul van der Molen
Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, 2 September 2010
The Farewell Symposium for
Paul van der Molen was entitled “Cadastres
of the Future”. |
FIG President Stig Enemark attended the Farewell Symposium for
Paul van der Molen who has decided to retire after a long standing
carrier at the Dutch Kadaster and ITC. Paul is also well know and highly
recognized for his contributions to FIG and the global surveying community
as chair of FIG Commission 7 1998-2002, Director of OICRF, FIG-UN Liaison
Ambassador, Honorary Member, and FIG Vice-President 2007-2008.
The Symposium was very well attended by about 100 key professionals from
the Dutch Kadaster and ITC. The program included a range of presentations
around the theme of “Cadastres of the Future” that has been Paul´s
core professional focus throughout his carrier. Key speakers included Stig
Enemark, FIG President; András Osskó, Chair of FIG Commission 7; Paul
van der Molen, Director of Kadaster International; Christiaan Lemmen,
Vice-Chair of Commission 7; and Godfried Barnasconi, Executive Board
Member of the Dutch Kadaster. The Symposium was moderated by Dr. Martin
Salzmann, Director of Strategy and Policy, the Dutch Kadaster.
In his keynote presentation President Enemark outlined the major change
of the FIG focus over recent years: “From Cadastre to Land Governance”.
FIG intend to play a strong role in building the capacity to design, build
and manage Land Governance systems in response to Climate Change and in
support of the Millennium Development Goals, and thereby taking the land
policy agenda forward in a partnership with the UN agencies and the World
Bank.
President Enemark further emphasised that Paul van der Molen has
contributed strongly to this agenda. His term as Chair of Commission 7
became one the most successful in the FIG´s history. Paul is passionate
about Cadastre and Land Administration and the role of the profession in
serving society. And he is passionate about education and the interaction
with the cadastral agencies and professional practice. The success as chair
of Com 7 is of course also due to the great team of Vice-Chair Chrit Lemmen,
Secretary Pauline van Elsland, and a strong support from the Dutch
Kadaster. FIG is grateful for the contributions of Paul van der Molen over
many years and wishes him all the best for happy retirement.
