President Stig Enemark visited Hyderabad, India, 22-25 January,
during the Map World Forum Conference, being the key regional event on Geo
Spatial Information, organized by GIS Development, India.
The conference was headed by the president of GIS Development Dr.
M.
P. Narayanan and the inaugural address was given by the Hon´ble Minister
for Science & Technology and Earth Science Mr. Kapil Sibal. Key note
addresses in a total of five plenary sessions were given by high profile
people from the government of India and a range of prominent people from the
profession and businesses including Mr. Jack Dangermond, President of
ESRI; Prof. Martin Molenaar, Rector of ITC the Netherlands; and Prof.
Bas Kok, President Elect, GSDI. A total of 11 seminar session, 3
seminars, and 14 technical sessions concluded a very comprehensive program
with about 200 presentations. The conference was attended by more 1,000
participants.
The plenary sessions were focused on Geographic Information as Public
Utility; Geospatial Technology: Return of Investment; Technological Trends;
Capacity Building; and Geospatial Information: Emerging Business Models. The

President Stig Enemark presented a keynote paper on “Building the
Capacity: Promoting Institutional and Organizational Development in
Surveying and Land Administration”. President Enemark also chaired the
Seminar and the following panel discussion on Surveying and Mapping, with
presentations from Dr. Prithvish Nag, Director of NATMO, India and
previous Surveyor General of India; Dr. B Nagarajan, Director of
Geodetic&Research Branch, Survey of India; Mr. Mohd Al Rajhi,
Director General of MOMRA, Saudi Arabia; and Mr. Dato Abdul Kadir Bin
Taib, Deputy Director General of JUPEM, Malaysia.
During the conference President Enemark had the opportunity to discuss
with key player in the surveying field in India, including Maj. Gen. M.
Gopal Rao, Surveyor General of India, in order to invite India to become
a member of FIG and thereby join the international surveying community. The
response to this was very positive and promising.
