SURCON contributes to FIG and the SDGs
7-9 December 2020, Abi State, Nigeria
In support of FIG’s ongoing commitment to the surveyors role in
the SDGs, the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) is sharing the
understanding of the SDGs across its membership in Nigeria and how
Surveyors skills can make our world a better place.

Kabir MM, Registrar SURCON delivered a keynote and technical
paper at the workshop “Achieving Sustainable Development through
the application of geospatial technologies” held in Abia
State, SE Nigeria, 7th - 9th December, 2020.

The workshop involved top professionals in Geospatial technology
industries, participants from the built industries, political, religious
and traditional leaders, women groups, students and youth associations
from Abia State and the south east of Nigeria. It is anticipated
that a paper capturing the deliberations will be produced in the New
Year.
FIG members continue to promote the SDG, spearheaded by FIG Task
Force 2019-2022 (Chair Paula Dijkstra, Netherlands). And we welcome
notice of our members initiatives and activities so that we may continue
to build up a FIG resource Library.

Pan Africa Leadership Prize for Excellence
It is a pleasure to announce that Surv. KABIR, M. M received the Pan
Africa Leadership Prize for Excellence 2020 for contributions to
Development of Professional Practice of Surveying in Nigeria and Africa.
The Prize was delivered on 17 Nov. 2020 by the Africa Students Union
Parliament, the ASUP which was founded in 1926 by prominent
African Students. Representatives of the Parliament from Ghana,
Cameroon, South Africa, Senegal and Nigeria were there to deliver
the Award.
During the presentation of the Award Surv. KABIR, M. M was named ICON
of NATION BUILDING and was inducted into the prestigious PAN - AFRICAN
LEADERSHIP HALL of FAME for exemplary leadership and drive for
sustainable development of Africa through Surveying and Geoinformatics.
