The FIG Working Week has been cancelled. This is not a decision we have taken lightly and there are two overriding concerns that have caused us to make this decision at this time.
First, the Dutch Government announced new measurements to control the COVID-19 outbreak. In the Netherlands all gatherings are prohibited until 1 June.
Second, our primary concern is always the wellbeing of you, and we would not take on the responsibility, during these times, to bring so many surveyors from all over the world together.

The Marker Wadden are a range of islands currently being created in the Markermeer lake; a robust new nature area with a favourable living climate for plants, birds and fish. This special area will become a place for people to thoroughly enjoy too. It is your opportunity to see how the Dutch experts create new land from the sea.
This new nature area is still in the process of being developed. It is an exceptional place to visit: the islands are man-made and created from sand, clay and silt dredged from the Markermeer lake. The main aims are to create breeding grounds, islands, and coast line as well as to improve the water ecology of the Markermeer. The area creates a wetland comparable with the Wadden Sea—hence the name of the project—yet without tides. Nature will be allowed to develop at its own pace on the natural banks of the new islands, both above and below the water line. A new natural paradise for fish and birds. It will also become a great island for leisure pursuits.

GeoFort is an educational attraction on an exciting fort in the New Dutch Waterline where everything is dedicated to maps and navigation. On GeoFort the visitor will meet old and new geotechniques in the GeoExperience. It is your chance to see how the Dutch geo-information is inspiring the next generation of geo-professionals.
You will be challenged by the experiments with various geo-techniques. You get disoriented in the dark underground corridor. You will be challenged in the smart maze and becomes fascinated by maps in the barracks. Children can delve into the Bat Trail Garden of Staatsbosbeheer. IJmuiden is located at the mouth of the 27-kilometre-long North Sea Channel that links Amsterdam with the sea. After nearly 100 years the Noordersluis in IJmuiden is due for replacement. A new, larger sea lock must improve the accessibility of the port of Amsterdam and stimulate the economy in the region by offering tide independent space for the ever increasing sea vessels.
The new large sea lock at Ijmuiden will be 500 meters long, 70 meters wide and 18 meters deep. This makes this sea lock the largest in the world. The lock walls will soar five metres above the current water level, thus providing defence against rising sea levels brought about by climate change while also strengthening the country's flood control. A fine example of world-class Dutch hydraulic engineering! With the new sea lock, the port area is preparing itself for the ships of the future.
During your visit you will see the locks and learn more about the it in the visitor centre SHIP. You can see how a ships goes through the locks. There is an expo, where you can walk through the locks and see th different elements in detail. And In SHIP you get an impressive overview of the construction of the world's largest sea lock.

We will take you to the heart of the Delft Railway Area project (“Spoorzone Delft”), the new building of the combined railway station/municipal offices of the city of Delft. TU Delft and Kadaster carried out a pilot in 2016 in which the 3D map of the new building was registered with the Cadastre. This was a first of its kind in the Netherlands. Never before had a three dimensional map been legally registered.
The building ownership is with three different proprietors and covers a relatively small surface. This made the structure uniquely suitable for the pilot. During the excursion a presentation will be given about the pilot, followed by a tour through the new railway station, including the underground bicycle park for 5000 bicycles and the railway platforms in the tunnel.

No other flood barrier in the world has larger moveable parts dan the Maeslant Barrier. This part of the Delta Works can withstand a storm tide of 5 meters above NAP.
The Maeslant Barrier is located in the Nieuwe Waterweg near Hoek van Holland and was built between 1991 and 1997. The structure is operated entirely automatically and together with the Hartel Barrier and the expanded Rozenburg Dyke, forms the Europoort Barrier. The Maeslant Barrier is the first barrier, which means that it the first line of defense in case of high tide and risk of flooding from the sea. Management of the barriers is done in close cooperation with other stakeholders, like municipalities, waterboards and provinces.
