Welcome to the September issue of FIG Newsletter. 2018 marks the year of the 140th anniversary of FIG. The outgoing President invites to celebrate this special occasion including a handover ceremony with her on 9 November in Athens, Greece. This special event will be held in conjunction with the joint FIG/UIA (INTERNATIONAL UNION OF ARCHITECTS)/ECCE (European Council of Civil Engineers), UNECE WPLA (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Working Party on Land Administration) event 7-10 November 2018. Each month on the FIG web site we publish a paper called the Article of the Month.
September 2018: FAO support to land consolidation in Europe and Central Asia from 2000-2018 - Experiences and way forward by Morten Hartvigsen, FAO. The paper gives an overview of the FAO land consolidation programme from 2000 and onwards including lessons learned and way forward. The objective of this paper is to present the FAO experiences of supporting member countries related to land consolidation. The paper was presented in a special FIG/FAO session at the FIG Congress 2018.

President of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TCG), Mr Stasinos and outgoing
FIG President Prof Potsiou to invite you to participate in the Athens Joint
Conference TUFE2018 organized by TCG in cooperation with Surveyors (FIG),

The FIG Working Week will be the major event in 2019 in the global community of surveying and geospatial professionals. It is organised by FIG - International Federation of Surveyors and VGCR - Vietnam Association of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing. The main objective of the FIG Working Week is to bring together experts from academia, governments/public administration and industry to report on recent developments, trends and research results.
Call for papers
The theme of the conference is Geospatial
information for a smarter life and environmental
resilience. Focus will be on tackling the climate
changes by working towards a smarter life both through
the development of smart cities and also in rural
areas. Spatial information, big data, surveying, BIM,
land administration and much more are essential
factors in this development.

Conference and exhibition
FIG Working Week
2019 will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam at the Vietnam National Convention
Center. Each conference day will consist of one plenary session with
specially invited key note speakers and technical sessions. An exhibition
showcasing the latest trends and developments will take place in parallel.
Look for your sponsorship and exhibition possibilities. Hereto, an
interesting social programme is offered which includes a visit to an
Vietnamese opera, a Vietnamese Cultural Evening and a festive gala dinner.
Several pre and post technical/social tours will be offered that will enable
you to get to know Vietnam both from a professional and a touristic point of

The FIG Asia Pacific Capacity Development Network (AP CDN)
convened another seminar of the Reference Frame in Practice
series in Suva, Fiji 18-20 September 2018. The event was a
result of discussions held at the FIG Congress in Istanbul
(Turkey) at the AP CDN open meeting. |
On a cool and windy day, 21 representatives from China from
China Land Surveying and Planning Institute, CLSPI and the
Ministry of Natural Resources paid a visit to the FIG office in
Copenhagen as a part of their trip to Denmark to learn about
Land use planning. |
FIG Vice President Diane Dumashie attends the launch of the
Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy, Golden
Jubilee Year in 2019. |
FIG Council held its last face-to-face meeting in Copenhagen to
finalise pending issues. In connection the incoming council held
a teambuilding workshop |
Jakoba Kgopolelo President of Botswana Institute of
Geomatics invites African land professionals to the Africa Regional
Network 2018, a prestigious event where Geospatial professionals
across the continent of Africa will be gathered to discuss pertinent

The FIG Foundation invites Young Surveyors to apply for
funds to participate in the 1st Young Surveyors African Meeting (YSAM) and
the 2018 FIG-African Regional Network Meeting taking place in Gaborone,
Botswana, on the 16th and 17th-19th of October respectively.
Deadline is 7 September 2018 at 17:00 GMT.

Geo PreVi 2018 Symposium “Geodesy for Smart Cities” will take place in
Bucharest, Romania 29-30 October. The technical program is mainly organized
by help of FIG Commission 5, 6 and 10 dealing with Positioning and
Measurement, Engineering Geodesy and Construction Economics and Management.
The organizing committee will support young surveyors from Romania and
abroad.
