Dear Colleagues It is my great pleasure to invite you to the Africa Regional Network 2018, a prestigious event where Geospatial professionals across the continent of Africa will be gathered to discuss pertinent issues in their profession cutting across many Industries. The event will be held in Gaborone, Botswana from the 17th to the 19th October 2018 at Tlotlo Hotel & Conference Centre. The theme for this year’s network is “Geospatial Technology Impacts: Shifting the Paradigm in Africa”. The Africa Regional Network focus is to build the capacity of African Surveying & Geomatics Associations and individual professionals to act as agents of positive change and encourage the process of development and growth for the benefit of Africa and its people. The 3 day long workshop will be limited to 100 people for this year. The registration works on a “first come” bases however, geographical diversity will be sought with quotas holding for each Africa region (North, West, East and Southern). The workshop will be a roundtable format and will offer interesting plenary and discussion sessions. This year’s ARN will be organized by FIG member institution, the Botswana Institute of Geomatics and in partnership with ESRI Southern Africa. The 2018 workshop focus is on the African Geomatics Profession and the impacts of ever changing geospatial technologies, how they can be utilized to best contribute to the challenges and opportunities of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly addressing Goal 11: “Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” The program is designed to be informative, highly participatory and productive and above all mixed with some fun as we will conclude with the opportunity of a joint sightseeing field trip. We are all looking forward to welcome you in Gaborone, Botswana for highly stimulating days in the company of great minds within the geospatial world.
