At its meeting in Christchurch, New Zealand 2-6 May 2016 the FIG General Assembly will elect two new Vice Presidents for term of office 2017-2020. Please note that the voting for Commission Chairs Elect will be postponed.
FIG Member Associations are invited to consider nominations for Vice President of the Federation for the period 2017-2020. Deadline for submission of nominations is 20 January 2016.

See Lian On, Chair of FIG Commission 10, is FIG nominee for the Standard Setting Committee of ICMS. ICMS focuses on the lack of global standards in construction measurement and reporting. The meeting also included discussion on the administration of ICMS and protocols for moving forward with the effort, such as the governance model, standard-setting process, implementation, and communications.

FIG Commission 2 and 7 invite you to attend the International FIG Workshop on "The Role of Land Professionals and SDI in Disaster Risk Reduction: In the Context of Post 2015 Nepal Earthquake” on 25-27 November 2015 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Workshop is jointly organised by FIG Commission 2, FIG Commission 7, ISPRS Working Group IV/4 together with the Nepal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (NICS) and the Nepal Remote Sensing and Photogrammetric Society (NRSPS).

A majority of the participants are generally happy with the FIG Working Week in Sofia, Bulgaria. 90 percent of the respondents of the post-conference survey indicated that they were overall satisfied. However, the survey also showed some areas of dissatisfaction, hereunder obsolete conference facilities; varying scientific level and not so inspiring lunches. The feedback is highly appreciated, and it will be taken seriously and will enable FIG to better plan and execute future conferences.

The purpose of the workshop was to share experience and practices in registration and cadastral systems enhancement within the framework of land administration. The seminar covered issues of registration and cadastral systems development, the use of information technologies aimed at improving the mentioned systems, as well as issues of information interaction between subjects of land administration.

The seminar had a particular focus on vertical reference frames, in response to requests from the region. This complemented a previous seminar held in Manila in 2013, which focussed on 3D frames.

FIG 38th General Assembly was held on 17 and 21 May 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria in connection with FIG Working Week 2015. The Vietnamese association VCGR wan the election for the FIG Working Week 2019, both a Honorary President and a Honorary Member was appointed, and FIG Council introduced a new appreciation as Honorary Ambassador. The Work Plans for the term 2015-18 were introduced and debated, and four new Task Forces were endorsed by the General Assembly.The General Assembly was very well attended. On 17 May 50 member associations out of 104 were represented and on 21 May 56 out of 103 member associations were present. Hereto there were both affiliate, academic and corporate members attending as well as observers.

2014 was a productive year for FIG. The Local Organising Committee for FIG Working Week 2017 held its initial meeting with FIG Manager Louise Friis-Hansen. Co-conference director is Pekka Halme, and the other representatives are Martti Pietikäinen, Heli Ursin and Paavo Häikiö (MML) who are representing the two Finnish Associations MIL and MAKLI. The meeting took place at the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS) where all LOC members conveniently work. FIG already now thanks NLS for their valuable support to the Working Week.

On 21-25 of October 2013 in connection with the FIG Commission 7 Annual meeting an International symposium and training was organised by FIG and FGF.

On 26 February 2015 The United Nations General Assembly adopted the UN resolution on Global Geodetic Reference Frame for Sustainable Development that was initiated by the Republic of Fiji. This UN Resolution is one concrete example of an outcome from the UN GGIM, in which FIG has been active. Last year at the FIG Congress 2014 in Kuala Lumpur a UN-GGIM-AP/FIG Statement was adopted where FIG expressed the importance of the resolution and urged the member organizations to bring the Statement back home to the respective countries.

Around 60 International participants and more than 100 Greek surveyors attended the FIG Kick-Off Event that took place on 24 January 2015 to celebrate and mark the change in FIG Leadership. Representatives from Greece and the International FIG Community spoke over the theme "Ensuring the Rapid Response to Change, Ensuring the Surveyor of Tomorrow" that is also the new theme of FIG for the term 2015-18. FIG Council will use all input from the day to adjust and finalise the FIG Work Plan 2015-18 with the good and relevant information and knowledge provided during the day.

Chryssy Potsiou, Technical Chamber Greece, is per 1 January 2015 now formally the President of FIG for the term 2015-18, although she has already gradually taken over from President CheeHai Teo during the last six months after the election. New Vice President and member of FIG Council is Diane Dumashie, RICS UK, elected for 2015-18. Rudolf Staiger, DVW Germany was reelected for the the term 2015-18 and Pengfei Cheng, Chinese Society for Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation and Bruno Razza, CNGeGL Italy are continuing their term as Vice Presidents until the end of 2016. FIG also welcomes the ten new FIG Commission Chairs, also elected for the term 2015-18, as well as the new Chair of FIG Young Surveyors, Eva Maria Unger. The change of leadership of FIG will be marked at a Kick-Off Event in Athens, Greece, on 24 January 2015.
