INTERGEO 2010 – Geomatics industry in stable growthCologne, Germany, 5-7 October 2010
The first session was opened by Dr. Karl-Friedrich Thöne, President of DVW who addressed the role of surveying profession and its challenges in German and international context. The first keynote was given by Dr. Udo Di Fabio, member of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, who discussed the role of public and private sectors from legislative perspective and privacy issues and transparency in geoinformation that is made available for the public through the Internet. Discussion on spatial data on the web and e.g. street view services has been especially active in Germany during the last months. The second day keynote was given by Jack Dangermond, Founder and President of ESRI, who discussed how GIS on the Internet can help addressing world’s problems. He addressed several key issues in the geoinformatics business and the trends that increase when we create more information in a quantitative form and this is generating huge savings in costs. The third day plenary session was dedicated to international trends in surveying and land managements. FIG President, Prof. Stig Enemark gave a presentation "Surveying: Where are we heading ?" focussing on the chancing role of land professionals and on the land management vision. He also described the work that FIG has made in implementing the UN Millennium Development Goals and addressed the achievements that FIG has reached over the last four years. FIG was represented at the INTERGEO by President Enemark, incoming Vice President Rudolf Staiger and Peter Normann Hansen, Ambassador for corporate members and John Hohol, President of the FIG Foundation. They together with the FIG Director had meetings with the major FIG corporate members and also with member associations. The number of FIG members attending INTERGEO indicated that it has become a true platform for international networking. Contacts to potential corporate members were also made. The next INTERGEO will be held in Nürnberg 27-29 September 2011.
