Kenyan Minister visit to the FIG Office

Hon. Minister Mr. Amos Kimunya, Minister of Lands and Settlements together with Ms. Judith Marilyn Okungu, Commissioner for Lands and Ms Anne Wangari from Institution of Surveyors Kenya (ISK) visited FIG and the National Survey and Cadastre (KMS) in Copenhagen May 23, 2003. The goal of the visit was to learn about FIG experiences on land administration and to see the Danish experiences on digitalizing the cadastre and land records and the use of modern multipurpose cadastre.

The delegation was visited KMS where they were hosted by Mr. Peter Jakobsen, Director General of KMS, who told the guests about KMS and its activities on cadastre and land management. The guests were welcomed by Deputy Permanent Undersecretary of State, Mr. Jesper Jarmbæk, who addressed the guests on behalf Mr. Hans Chr. Schmidt, Minister of the Environment.

The other presentations included presentation about FIG and particularly its latest activities on cadastre and land administration. Representatives from two Danish surveying firms Cowi/Kampsax and Blom International, both corporate members of FIG, reported on their recent international projects and activities. Perhaps the most interesting part of the programme was the online presentation on the Danish cadastre and land information systems provided by the experts from KMS. Kim I. Christensen at KMS was in charge for the visit.

Mr. Kimunya told about the goals of the new Kenyan government to modernize and digitalize the Kenyan cadastre and land records to help the government achieve the goals that it has decided to peach in the land issues in the near future.
